In the heart of the old town, a construction site is slowly taking shape. Our new coffee shop is being built in the former statue hall of the Museum of Modern Art Salzburg, located in the Rupertinum. It will be a showcase for our coffee. While the tradespeople are gradually moving out, new craftsmanship is moving in. The new 220GRAD Rupertinum houses two gems from La Marzocco – a Leva X and a KB90. With this new location, we are expanding our range of machines from this renowned manufacturer. But who exactly is La Marzocco?
Founded in 1927 by Giuseppe and Bruno Bambi, La Marzocco originated in Florence. It was no coincidence that Giuseppe Bambi chose the symbol of the "Marzocco"—a seated lion bearing the Florentine fleur-de-lis, synonymous with victory and triumph—to name his company La Marzocco. On February 25, 1939, Giuseppe Bambi registered a patent for the first espresso machine with a horizontal boiler. This innovative design allowed all brewing groups to be positioned in a row, enabling the integration of a greater number of groups and simplifying and accelerating their operation. The GS—Italian for "saturated group"—which ensures a constant temperature, is another key factor in the preparation of high-quality coffee. Even today, highly specialized professionals oversee every stage of production for each machine, which is handcrafted to order.
fb80 | 2006
The first machine produced for the World Barista Championships Finals in Bern is the FB80 by Piero Bambi. With its customizable panel, the FB80 was named to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Bambi brothers. You can find this machine at our 220GRAD location on Chiemseegasse.
leva | 2017
To celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2017, La Marzocco unveiled the highly anticipated Leva: a groundbreaking model that reinvents the technology and design of a lever espresso machine. It debuted with a striking 90s design, followed by the Leva X and Leva S variants. With its distinctive design and low profile, the Leva, incorporating a host of ergonomic features, completely redefines the iconic lever espresso machine. You can now find this machine at 220GRAD Rupertinum. We will be using it for special espresso shots.
KB90 | 2019
The KB90 is our new workhorse at 220GRAD Nonntal and Rupertinum. Designed for faster and more efficient operation in high-volume cafés, La Marzocco has completely redefined portafilter handling, reducing physical strain and optimizing workflow. These machines allow our baristas to focus on the quality of every cup while ensuring no one is kept waiting. This balancing act connects us with everyone who operates in quality niches.
It's not just the lionesses who will support us. And what does a goat have to do with it? More soon!
